The most important difference: town money and personal money are kept separate. When you stock the town bank for creation and daily upkeep, plan your claim and plot payments against the same budget.

Claims and world rules

Claimable

Claims are enabled in the Towny world records, including world, maden, maden_nether and maden_end.

Claim radius

The live claiming config has max_claim_radius_value: 4. This value is the config limit for Towny’s claim range.

Wilderness

Build, destroy, switch and item use are disabled by default in unclaimed areas.

PvP

PvP is enabled in the live world records; town / plot permissions and player preference still apply separately.

Explosions and fire

Explosions and firespread are enabled in the world settings; town protection is evaluated together with the permissions inside the claim.

War infrastructure

The Towny world records have warAllowed=true. The SiegeWar page should be expanded as the war conditions are clarified.

A safe town setup flow

  1. Prepare the town budget

Set aside the $200 creation fee and $15 for the first claim. After that, factor in the $5 daily town upkeep.

  2. Choose a permanent world

Check the world rules. The main world for your home and settlement and the mining world for resources is the healthier split.

  3. Homeblock and claim

After /t new <isim>, set your homeblock; then add only the area you will really protect with /t claim.

  4. Test the permissions

After adding members, test door, chest, button and block permissions with a friend. Don’t hand the manager role to everyone.
